SW Portland Handyman was born out of a clear need in the community for a trustworthy, consistent, and communicative handyman service—part intention, part happy accident.

When Jorge and Kati purchased their home nestled in the forested, beautiful Garden Home neighborhood, they took on an ambitious remodel of nearly every room. Just as the work wrapped up and right before their wedding, a burst pipe flooded half the kitchen and laundry room. Insurance covered the damage and the plan was to hire out the repairs to let us focus on wedding planning, but we were repeatedly shocked by how difficult it was to find contractors who were reliable, trustworthy, and communicated well.

Soon after, we purchased a rental property in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and encountered the same issues. Once again, finding a reliable, trustworthy person to care for our home away from home proved difficult.

Coming from careers in engineering and accounting, reliability, trustworthiness, and clear communication aren’t optional—they’re essential. With Jorge having grown up in a contractor family, the question naturally arose: Why not do this ourselves?

And with that, SW Portland Handyman was born.
